Joining the ranks of Bollywood’s biggest production houses, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani have now opened a private preview theatre called Lightbox in Santacruz. “Both of them wanted to time the launch of their preview theatre with the release of their upcoming film, Talaash, which they have co-produced with Aamir Khan. Unfortunately, the work is not complete yet, so screenings will begin only next week,” says an insider close to the duo.

Talaash will be Excel Entertainment’s next big release after the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Don 2 (2011). “They were keen to have their plush theatre open by Wednesday. However, they are very excited to own a private theatre,” adds the insider.

Till date, the suburbs have a dearth of preview theatres, with a few exceptions like Ketnav or multiplexes. “Usually all the film screenings happen at Film City as the picture quality and sound system are very good there. However, with this preview theatre, Ritesh and Farhan will get many requests to lend their property to others as well,” adds the insider.

Located at a prime spot in Santacruz, the theatre is believed to be luxurious, with fancy seats and state-of-the-art technology. Although Farhan and Ritesh remained unavailable for comment, their spokesperson says: “The work on it (the theatre) has been going on for almost a year. Unfortunately, it gets operational only from tomorrow.”
