Three days after 24-year-old Gurpreet Kaur had died under mysterious circumstances, the police on Thursday arrested her husband Satnam Singh and his father Bhura Singh, following protests by the family of the deceased on Wednesday.
The police had booked the two on Tuesday, but arrested them after the woman's family had on Wednesday alleged police inaction. Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Kumar Rahul has directed the police to re-conduct the post-mortem of the woman's body, which has now been sent to Government Rajindra Hospital at Patiala. Later in the day, Gurpreet's body was handed over to her family and she was cremated amid the presence of policemen.

On Wednesday, the family members and neighbours of Gurpreet had also alleged that the doctors, who conducted the post-mortem, had not mentioned any injury marks on the neck and other parts of the deceased's body. Girpreet's brother had also demanded that the viscera should be sent to laboratories in Mohali or Mumbai.
