The Garhshankar police have nabbed inter-state smuggler and gangster Jaswinder Singh alias Chakravarty, wanted in several criminal cases.
Assistant sub-inspector Des Raj and his team intercepted Chakravarty's Tata Scorpio on Nawanshahr road on Thursday and recovered a 315 bore pistol and 250 gram of contraband.

SHO Parshan Singh said that Chakravarty had been declared a proclaimed offender in a dacoity case registered against him in 2000. Apart from that, he was also wanted in a number of drug trafficking and robbery cases in Punjab, Himachal Pardesh, UP and Delhi, claimed the SHO.

He added that Chakravarty had been dodging the police by changing his identity and was presently living under the name of Satnam Singh in Ambala (Haryana). A court has remanded Chakravarty in two-day police custody.
