Chhabra in his inaugural address said that energy conservation was a collective effort and appealed to the consumers to use electricity judiciously.
CMD, PSPCL, KD Chaudhri, in his message, said that corporation was already making efforts through advertisements in print and electronic media to make common man aware of the benefits of energy conservation.
The corporation has distributed 15-lakh CFLs at subsidised rate in some of its circles under the bachat lamp yojna and will soon cover whole of Punjab under this scheme, he said. "By replacing all the incandescent bulbs with CFLs, the state can save 600 MW of power,) Chaudhri said. He said that to check power pilferage, the PSPCL had already shifted electricity meters of about 20 lakh consumers out of their premises.
Chaudhri said that by taking a a number of initiatives, PSPCL's transmission and distribution losses had come down from 18% to 17.4% and the corporation was now aiming at 15% target in the next couple of years.
