A 39-year-old journalist approached the Palghar police on Friday alleging that his Facebook account had been hacked and objectionable updates about Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray had been posted.

The Palghar police have submitted the complaint to the concerned cyber cell, officials said.

According to the Palghar police, the journalist, Mohammed Hussain Nabi Sarvar Khan, a resident of Palghar had started a local newspaper a month ago.

In his written complaint to the police, Khan has alleged that the Facebook page of his publication had been hacked and that objectionable pictures of the Sena chief had been subsequently posted on the page.

Khan said that around 4.30pm on Thursday, he received a call from his friend stating that objectionable pictures of the Sena chief had been uploaded on his page.

When Khan logged into his account, he could not see the pictures. He then met his friend and saw the pictures on the page on his friend's cell phone.

"There were about five to six pictures on the page and about seven to eight comments supporting the pictures. I am not sure if my account was hacked or someone accessed it by other means or if they created a duplicate account," Khan said, adding that he was shocked to see the pictures on his page.

"Khan approached us with a written complaint and a CD of the images posted. We have sent both to the Thane cyber cell who are investigating into the matter. A case will be registered based on their findings," said BY Jadhav, sub inspector, Palghar police station.
