Police claimed that a few students ran after her, but could not prevent her from jumping off the roof.
Namita, who reportedly received a serious head injury, was rushed to a local hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Confirming the incident, SSP Amritsar (rural) PS Virk said they had initiated proceedings under section 174 of the CrPC. He said they had found a suicide note from the bag of the student and were investigating its contents.
Beas SHO Harkishan Singh said, "We fail to understand the reason behind the suicide. Though we have got the suicide note, we cannot divulge its details as investigations are still underway."Police sources claimed that the suicide note blamed someone in the family, the authenticity of which was being checked.
