Jyoti, a native of Bhunga village in Hoshiarpur, was found dead on a road in Sector 21 on November 22 morning. Her head had been crushed by a vehicle. As per post-mortem report, she died of head injury and recently had undergone an abortion.
Gurdev Singh, an uncle of Jyoti, accused Sector 5 police station SHO, inspector Ajay Singh, of protecting the accused. "The police are sitting on the case that has made little progress. We were called to the Sector 5 police station, but all we got was harassment. We waited for the SHO for three hours," he alleged.
"We will wait for some more time and then approach Punjab and Haryana high court. We are aware of the reports that a Congress leader is under the scanner in the murder case. We will also meet Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Himachal counterpart Prem Kumar Dhumal to pressure police for action in the case."
With the help of records of mobile phone calls, police had zeroed in on Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Ram Kumar, who had fought the recent assembly election in the state.
Jyoti was pursuing BEd course at Shivalik Institute of Education and Research, SAS Nagar, and staying away from parental house for the last six years. She was staying in Sector 21, Chandigarh.
