Some members of the joint action committee (JAC) in the Faridkot kidnapping case on Saturday met senior superintendent of police Gurpreet Singh Toor and urged that the chargesheet should be filed against the accused after proper investigation. The move came following some reports that police may file the chargesheet before December 3, the day the case would come for hearing in the Punjab and Haryana high court, to avoid a CBI inquiry.

"We have some doubts on the alleged role of the Faridkot police in the kidnapping case. So we have brought everything to the notice of the SSP," said NK Jeet, lawyer of the kidnap victim's family. "From delayed registration of FIR to the arrest of the accused, the role of the police has raised suspicion," he said.

"We want police to record the victim's statement. We also want to know that the mother of the accused had allegedly withdrawn a huge amount of money before the September 24 incident but the police have recovered less than Rs. 1 lakh," alleged Swarn Singh, a member of the joint action committee.

When contacted, the Faridkot SSP said: "I will ensure that the accused are punished and the case is thoroughly investigated. I am looking into all aspects of the case. Nobody who is guilty will be spared."
