But no arrests could be made because the aggrieved persons did not lodge a complaint.
According to the victims, they were a team of 30 students, including six girls, and were returning to Panipat from Kolkata after finishing an IT project.
As soon as the Janata Express reached Ara, some local youths boarded it and started making vulgar comments at the girl students.
When some others objected, the offenders launched on them. Several students were injured while a girl became unconscious after the incident.
As soon as the train reached the next station, Bihiya, the victims informed station officials about the incident.
The injured students were then admitted to the primary health centre there.
Ara government railway police station SHO Rajendra Prasad said the incident was the result of a "dispute over seats".
The students did not lodge any FIR despite being asked by the police to do so, he added. After initial treatment, the students were sent to Buxar by a passenger train.
From there, they left for Panipat.
