Pakistan Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhury skipped a two-day International Conference of Jurists on terrorism on New Delhi apparently as fallout of the recent execution of Ajmal Kasab, the Pakistani terrorist involved in 26/11 attacks.

According to Adish C Aggarwala, president of the International Council of Jurists, the organisers of the event, Choudhury had confirmed his participation in the two-day conference prior to Kasab's execution. The conference ended here on Saturday.

"Following Kasab's execution, Mr Choudhury informed us that due to unavoidable circumstances, he can't attend the conference. Apparently, the Government of Pakistan had asked him not to attend this important meet, where jurists from all over the world gathered to discuss the threat posed by terrorism and the response to it," he said.

On Friday, Bangladesh Supreme Court judge - Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury - had praised India for the execution of Kasab, saying it would send a strong message to the world.

The conference unanimously adopted 'New Delhi Declaration Against all forms of Terrorism' and expressed "deep concern" over the ever increasing spate of terrorist attacks across the globe.

Declaration appealed to the judiciary fraternity from all countries to curb terrorism with an iron hand, and not to show any leniency to perpetrators of such acts of violence.
