'Removing barriers to create an inclusive and accessible society for all', the theme for International Day of Persons with disabilities is not just another slogan that makes for a good reading on websites, newspapers or brochures of NGOs. Rather, it is the goal "differently abled" have taken upon themselves to achieve so as to create their own niche in the mainstream of society.

Compared to hundreds of examples to show that persons with disabilities do not have equal access to health, education, employment, political participation or justice, there are hundreds - if not thousands - of individuals who did not let their disabilities pull them away from their goals.

Those who have beaten adverse physical and mental faculties to come up trumps have proved right the saying of United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: "Evidence and experience shows that when barriers to their inclusion are removed and persons with disabilities are empowered to participate fully in societal life, their entire community benefits…"
