The preliminary investigation into the death of a 17-year-old girl, an MBBS aspirant who died after falling from the third floor of her hostel in Janakpuri on Sunday, states she committed suicide.  According to a senior police officer, the family members of the victim, identified as Neha, told them that she was upset because she was not given a particular 'dress' she wanted as her birthday gift. Neha celebrated her 17th birthday on Saturday.

Neha, a native of Begusarai in Bihar, was staying at a hostel in Janakpuri for the past few months. On Sunday around 4.30 pm, she was found dead outside her hostel building in Janakpuri's A 1-Block.

"The family members of the girl told us that she was upset because they did not give her the desired gift — a dress she wanted. Since no suicide was left by the victim, we are going ahead with their version. But the reason for taking the extreme step is being probed from other angles," said an officer.

On Saturday, Neha had celebrated her birthday along with her two brothers. On Sunday morning, the brothers took her for shopping and dropped her outside her hostel around 4 pm.

Around 5 pm, Neha's brother Gaurav received a call from Neha's hostel that she has been taken to Chanan Devi hospital and her condition is critical. By the time he reached hospital, doctors had declared her dead.
