Maldives foreign minister Abdul Samad Abdullah on Tuesday telephoned external affairs minister Salman Khurshid, saying the Maldives president will write to the Indian PM. Khurshid said the Maldives government should not give the impression of a drift in the ties.
According to official sources, there was no decision of India cutting back on aid to Maldives.
Senior GMR Group officials said the company will exploit all legal remedies and might even move the International Court of Justice. The CEOP of the Male airport company- controlled by the GMR group - contested the attempts of the Maldives government to take over operations at the airport, calling it illegal.
The GMR Group was granted a stay by the Singapore High Court on the cancellation of its $511 million (about R2,800 crore) airport development contract by the Maldives on Monday.
Andrew Harrison, CEO of GMR Male International Airport Pvt Ltd, said according to the Maldivian officials, their takeover of the airport was not against the Singapore ruling.
"The Singapore HC has issued an injunction which clearly prevents MACL or the government of Maldives or any of its agents from taking any action that interferes with the GMIAL operating the airport," he said.
