“An argument started when some women passengers asked two men sitting on an upper berth to fold their legs. Intervention by another male group triggered a fight and one of the men, Arman, was stabbed,” said RK Bhardwaj, superintendent of police, GRP.
Passengers said a man stabbed Arman with a pair of scissors in his chest, killing him. His body was recovered when the train stopped at Hapur. “The victim’s two friends and the attackers’ group jumped off the train when it slowed down near Hapur,” the SP said.
According to officials, the brawl began somewhere around Pilkhuwa area and was reported when a woman passenger made a call to the police.
The victim used to stay with his uncle at Majidpura area of Hapur and worked as an electrician at an under-construction mall in Ghaziabad. The two men, who were travelling with the victim, the train had already started but they managed to board the last coach.
“We have already initiated an investigation and questioning passengers. It seems that the accused were some locals. We are also investigating how the other group of men boarded the women’s coach,” Bhardwaj said.
During the incident, one of victim’s friends also suffered minor injuries. A case has been lodged against unidentified men at the Ghaziabad GRP police station.
