A car driver died while three others travelling in it were injured after the vehicle collided with a road divider at a prominent central Delhi crossing on Tuesday night, the police said. The police said the driver identified as Rukam Chand (35) of a village in Burari was speeding, whereas the three injured — Narendra Multani, 42, Kamal Narang, 39, and Vijay, 40 — were in an inebriated state at the time of mishap.

According to the police, the accident took place at the Rajesh Pilot Marg-Prithvi Raj Road crossing at 12:05am. Chand was ferrying the three to Paschim Vihar from Pandara Road in a Toyota Fortuner car when the mishap took place, the police said.

“Speeding is the cause of the accident. It seems that Rukam Chand lost control over the SUV at a sharp turn. The vehicle first hit the road divider and turned turtle several times before coming to a halt,” said a police officer.

“The dividers on the either side of the crossing are broken due to the collision. The vehicle’s front bumper flew and landed on the carriageway on the opposite side,” the officer said.

The injured have been admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, the police said.

“While the medical report of the three executives has revealed alcohol consumption, Chand’s post-mortem report is awaited,” the officer said.

A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered at the Tughlak Road police station.

The police said the injured work with a shoe advertising company and the vehicle was registered in the name of a Mumbai-based advertising company.
