With security beefed up and university authorities busy in looking after final preparations, the arrangements for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Saturday were on full swing on the campus here on Thursday.
A team of special protection group (SPG) led by an inspector-general level officer had reached the city on Wednesday. The team along with city police personnel conducted security checks on the campus. The entry on the campus has also been restricted.

Besides, the choppers of Indian Air Force conducted landing and take-off rehearsals on the PAU ground where the PM's chopper would land.

A comprehensive cleanliness drive was in progress on the campus.

The university authorities were also busy in giving final touches to the preparations inside the Pal Auditorium where the PM would bestow degrees to scholars during the golden jubilee year convocation.

Deputy commissioner of police S Bhoopathi said both SPG team and city police were working in collaboration to chalk out the security plans. A meeting of SPG officials and city police was scheduled on Thursday evening to discuss security concerns.

"The SPG team will provide their feedback about the security and will apprise the final requirement of police force to be deployed," Bhoopathi added.
