To a question that how Ranjit Singh Rana who is accused of killing the ASI was taken into the party, Majithia said: "We have asked the urban wing of party's Amritsar unit to probe that on whose recommendations was Rana included in the party. Besides, the credentials of all those who had joined the party recently in Amritsar will be probed."
Majithia said the loss cannot be undone but the Punjab government and SAD have all sympathy for the bereaved family. "We assure due compensation and justice to the family."
Asked that how Rana was elevated to the position of general secretary even as the local unit of the SAD claimed that he had come to the party few months back, Majithia said: "There are about 40 general secretaries and when somebody joins the party, we cannot predict what the person is going to do in future. The best we can do is to ensure action when some partyman commits a crime. The party has already expelled him and police arrested him in less than 12 hours."
Majithia took a dig at the Congress and said the party was politicising the issue. "Even Sonia Gandhi has given party tickets to people booked under heinous crimes," he said.
