No loss of life or property was reported from either side, only small arms were used in the firing. DIG BSF, JS Oberoi informed HT, "At 11.35 hours in this morning, the Pakistani troops opened fire at our Ballar Post. We also retaliated, and fired for just 4-5 minutes."
"Electrification work was going on at that post; their motive to fire could have been to stop the work," he added.
Patrolling along the border line with Pakistan was also increased and round-the-clock vigilance was maintained, apart from use of equipments, including thermal imagers after a tunnel was discovered at International Border on July 28 this year.
More than 22 ceasefire violations have taken place this year, 51 cases were registered in 2011, 44 cases in 2010 and 28 cases in 2009.
