Rampura (Amritsar), December 08, 2012
Instead of accepting responsibility of some tainted elements in the party, the Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, virtually disowned Ranjit Singh Rana, the ruling Akali Dal district general secretary and killer of the Punjab police cop, by repeatedly saying that 'I don’t know from where Rana came and wasn’t even a long time worker of the party.'

The chief minister, who visited the family of the slain ASI Ravinder Pal Singh, who was killed by Rana on the main road, even mentioned, “Rana was not a long time worker. I don’t know Neither I have seen him and neither Majithia Saab (referring Bikram Majithia) has seen him.”

Answering a volley of questions on Rana, his entry into the ruling Akali Dal and elevation of general secretary of the District, the chief minister said, “I don’t know who brought him in the party.”

When asked that wasn’t it the responsibility of district unit of party, Badal, “They might be knowing this.”

Talking further, Punjab chief minister said, “People join political parties and we cannot pre-empt what they would do. Sometimes even some ‘tainted’ people can get a photograph clicked with me at some function but that does not mean, I am wrong.”

Terming the incident very sad, the chief minister while answering a query, said, “We can’t say that this is a general law and order failure in Punjab. It is a very sad incident. Incidents do take place. We have even seen incident such as Mumbai attack and Parliament attack.”

I cannot tell you how shocked we are over this incident. I have ensured the family of all help. Whatever they ask will be given to them. It doesn’t look good if I make any announcements here. I can just say that this is my family, said the Punjab chief minister.

When questioned that lot of Arms Licenses were made these days, the CM said, “As compared to past, not many are made now.”

Earlier, the Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal spent about 20 minutes with girl Robanjeet Kaur, his mother and brother. Badal met the family inside a room where media was not allowed and later made the family sit along while talking to reporters.

Punjab revenue minister Bikram Majithia, DGP Sumedh Saini, ADGP HS Dhillon, Cabinet minister Anil Joshi, CPS Inderbir Bolaria, CPS Navjot Kaur Sidhu and various others were also present.

CM appeals to media
The Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal appealed to the media that issue must not be politicized.

“I appeal to you people (media) that this issue must not be politicized.”

However, the CM does not seem to be aware that the media is reporting the reactions of the public.

Many line up at village
Interestingly many political leaders of the SAD and BJP who did not attend the cremation of the ASI Ravinder Pal Singh on Friday, lined up at the village when the Chief minister arrived.

On Friday only SAD MLA Gulzar Ranike, CPS Dr. Sidhu, district SAD Chief Upkaar Sandhu and former SAD MLA Veer Singh Lopoke were present.

However on Saturday when CM came at the village of ASI many leaders of ruling Akali Dal and BJP reached.
