A six-year-old girl from Kurumpady in Kerala’s Ernakulam district was allegedly raped by her 40-year-old father and his friends for almost six months. The child has also said he forced her to drink alcohol before the assaults.

The incident comes on the heels of a similar instance in Kannur, in which a student of class 9 had been raped by her father, brother and uncles for two years.

The latest incident came to light when the child showed some behavioural problems.

She was first taken to a doctor and then to a psychiatrist and after intense counseling, said she had been sexually abused by her father.

Dr Ajeesh Ramachandran, psychiatrist of the district government hospital, said the girl also narrated in detail how she was also forced to drink alcohol every time. “She has named the friends of her father who had abused her,” he said.

After the child’s mother approached the police, a case was registered against the father, who is on the run.
