The Punjab Congress unit on Monday elected its leaders for four municipal corporations (MC) of Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Patiala in the state here. The decision to elect the leaders in the MC was taken by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee(PPCC) president Capt Amarinder Singh to ensure that only those candidates who enjoyed the confidence of the party councillors were elected, a party spokesperson said.

The elections were held through secret ballot at the Punjab Congress Bhawan in presence of senior party leaders and the respective observers for the particular MCs.

The decision was widely hailed by the party rank and file, particularly the elected councillors who said, this had ruled out the possibility of favouritism.
