Launching a scathing attack on the way health services are being managed in the Capital, the BJP on Tuesday — on the first day of the winter session of the Delhi Assembly — demanded the health minister's resignation on the issue. Blaming the government for the five deaths at the intensive care unit of the Sushruta Trauma Centre last week, the BJP said the health minister should take responsibility for the incident.

“It was not accident, it was murder. There should be a case against the health minister,” leader of the opposition Vijay Kumar Malhotra said before walking out with his MLAs.

Health minister Ashok Kumar Walia said strict action would be taken against the people responsible for the mishap.

FDI in retail
Delhi development minister Rajkumar Chauhan said Delhi was firm on its commitment to implement foreign direct investment in retail multi-brand trade.

Replying to a discussion initiated by the opposition, Chauhan said final touches were being given to the proposal. “We are making necessary changes in the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee Act to pave way for foreign players to open their multi-brand outlets in the city,” Chauhan said.

Questioning the government's intention, Malhotra said the Congress in 2002 had termed the proposal to allow FDI in retail multi-brand trade as anti-national. “We want to know what has changed in the last 10 years that an anti-national proposal has now become national,” Malhotra said

Mukesh Sharma, parliamentary secretary to chief minister Sheila Dikshit, said the BJP was in habit of rejecting all new initiatives and ideas.

Matia Mahal MLA Shoaib Iqbal raised the topic of security to legislators to which Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said she would talk to the commissioner of Delhi Police.

Lokayukta report
The government rejected the Lokayukta's suggestion that Delhi government should resend its suggestion to the President to caution Sheila Dikshit against "making false promises" before the elections to woo voters.
