The accident took place after one Jai Prakash Bansal, 65, who was allegedly driving his Honda Civic on the wrong side of the road, rammed the rickshaw Shreya was travelling in on Chhatra Marg around 3 pm.
The impact of the collision, police claimed, was such that Bansal lost control and immediately rammed a Xylo car right behind the rickshaw.
“While Shreya fell and slid under the Civic, the rickshaw puller, Parmanand Singh, fell on the other side of the pavement, sustaining injuries on his forehead. A professor who was passing by immediately rushed her to the nearby hospital and also made a PCR call,” the officer said.
“Shreya sustained a deep wound across her right eyebrow and fractured her right arm. She is being operated upon and is still in the ICU. The doctors have kept her under observation,” said her brother-in-law Lalit Saraswat.
Police said Bansal was arrested and would be subjected to a blood-test to ascertain whether he was under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place.
