Rajya Sabha chairman Hamid Ansari on Wednesday met leaders of parties in the house to resolve the stalemate over the bill for reservations in promotions, sources said. They said the meeting was held before the house met for the day on Wednesday morning. The upper house has seen repeated disruptions over the bill following stiff opposition from the Samajwadi Party. The Bahujan Samaj Party has been demanding that the bill be passed at the earliest.

The constitution amendment bill seeks to provide reservation in promotions to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.
