The NCP's attempt to gain an advantage over the Opposition, on the day when the irrigation scam issue was to be raised in the House, came to a naught, as the Opposition leader in the Assembly, Eknath Khadse (BJP), got the document on Wednesday night. The BJP then prepared a rebuttal to the NCP's claims and allegations. Khadse and other BJP leaders released the document before the NCP leaders could present their document to the media.
"The NCP planned to release the 'truth paper' to counter the allegations levelled against them. However, their claims are nothing but half-truth," said Opposition leader in the legislative council Vinod Tawde.
Irked, NCP spokesman Nawak Malik called BJP leaders thieves. Going ahead with the release of the paper, home minister RR Patil (NCP) insisted that the 'truth paper' would expose the Opposition parties.
"The Opposition claims that there is a scam worth Rs. 70,000 crore when the expenditure on irrigation projects in the last ten years has been Rs. 42,000 crore," said Patil. "Everyone wants to speak on irrigation without knowing anything on the issue," he added.
