Crippled by civic issues like non-functional streetlights, overflow of sewage and potholed roads, Sector 15 — an area developed by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) — is in dire straits.

Besides, the residents have been complaining about security threats and stray animal menace in the area. But no action has been taken by the authority.

Vacant plots are turning into a garbage dump.

A group of residents recently met the Huda administrator to brief him about the civic problems. “Do we need to tell Huda officials to clean drains and repair roads every year before rainy season? Waterlogging is common in our area. The administrator should take strong steps to punish errant officials,” said Raja Ram, a resident.

The residents claimed that choked drains had caused irreparable damage to sector roads, but junior engineers and other officials did not swing into action.

They complain that most streetlights are not working and several hours of power cut are a routine.

Potholed roads are causing inconvenience to motorists and senior citizens, who find it difficult to walk on the roads. “We have been complaining to Huda officials since 2007, but many of the problems remain there,” said another aggrieved resident.

Huda administrator Praveen Kumar said the authority would look into the complaints and try to resolve them at the earliest. “We will take strict action against errant officials for their negligent behaviour,” Kumar said.
