The Haryana Vidhan Sabha speaker, Kuldeep Sharma, is for 'no work, no pay' formula to control 'unruly' legislators and parliamentarians from disrupting the House proceedings repeatedly.
"Instead of carrying out their prime job of holding debates on public issues and various bills, elected representatives are wasting time in mudslinging," Sharma told the media here on Friday.

"Repeated disruptions result in the wastage of tax payers' money. 'No work, no pay' formula can put an end to House disruptions but the troublemakers will stall such a move in the assembly," he said.

It was a common practice, the speaker said, among MLAs to not debate a certain issue in the assembly and discuss the same issue on news channels. "It is a serious matter and reflects the callous attitude of elected members."

Sharma said several elected member mouth words that did not befit their position. He cited the examples of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief Om Prakash Chautala using derogatory remarks against the Chair in the Rajya Sabha and the Haryana assembly, respectively. "The instances of criticising the Chair depicts the sorry state of affairs and damages the sanctity of the House," Sharma said.

It is unfortunate that the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) chief, Kuldeep Bishnoi, was using unparliamentary language at public functions and press conferences against the Chair of the Vidhan Sabha," the speaker added.
