When the shop staff came to work on Saturday morning, they found the locks broken and the shop robbed of liquor bottles and cash.
Giving details, the police said the thieves managed to enter the shop after breaking open the locks of the shutter. They took away cash from the counter at the entrance and also managed to take away some imported whisky bottles.
The CCTV cameras set up on the shop premises are being examined by the police.
DSP (east) Vijay Kumar said they were looking into the incident and would check if the CCTV cameras were functional or not.
Acting on the complaint of Prem Ahuja, general manager of the shop, the police have registered a case of burglary under section 380 of IPC and trespass under section 457 of the IPC.
The theft and robbery incidents at liquor vends are not unknown to the city. In June this year, two incidents of robbery were reported from liquor vends in a single day. Such incidents reflect on the poor patrolling by the cops across the city during night hours.
Brands which went missing Crown Royal Black, Chivas Regal and Red Label whisky were among the stolen brands. The thieves could not lay their hands on Green Label whisky, which is also a heavily priced brand.
