Taking measures to deal with the rising vehicular pressure on the busy roads, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has decided to widen the five-km stretch from Huda City Centre Metro station to Subhash Chowk on Sohna Road at a cost of R60 crore. The authority is likely to float tenders for the multi-crore project in a week. The project includes widening of the 10-metre wide road up to 12.5 metre with 5-meter service lanes on both sides of the stretch.

Besides, a 2-metre wide track will be constructed for cyclists and light vehicles. The dedicated cyclists' track is being built for the first time in a Huda region in Gurgaon. The authority has plans to create 500-km cycle track in the Millennium City.

The stretch, which is known as the master road, serves residents of over 45 localities in new Gurgaon, who have to face heavy traffic to go to the Metro station.

"Besides widening of the road, there is a proposal of two foot-over-bridges (FOBs) also on this stretch. The sites are not earmarked as yet but one of them can be close to the Metro station," said a senior Huda official. The project will be completed is one year, the official said.

The Haryana government has given its approval to the project cost last week and now the local Huda office is to invite tenders.

Commuters have welcomed the move. "It's a welcome decision by the authority as the road is not wide enough to accommodate heavy traffic moving towards Metro station. The road also does not have a cyclist track," said SK Srivastav, a resident of South City who uses Metro service daily travelling 5 kilometres.

A Haryana Urban Development Authority official said that the Jahangirpuri-Huda City Centre Metro line will be extended to Manesar in future.
