Immediately after the question-hour session when Punjab chief minister (CM) Parkash Singh Badal and leader of the house got up to make a statement on the floor of the house, leader of opposition and congress legislative party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar also stood up asking the speaker to allow the opposition party to have a discussion on the law and order situation of the state.
However Badal wanted the speaker to first allow him to give an explanation in the house on the charges leveled against him by the CLP leader for utilising more than Rs. 40 crore in his Lambi assembly constituency, from the Punjab Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDB) before the state assembly polls held in January this year.
When Jakhar objected to the CM's offering an explanation on the aforesaid issue, Badal was visibly upset. "Jakhar Sahib do you alone want to consume all the time in the house and not allow anyone else to speak. You can get up anytime you like but will not let the leader of the house explain an issue which you had raised and made an allegation against me. This is no way to conduct in the house. It is very sad", said Badal.
Punjab deputy chief minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal who was sitting adjacent to Badal also got up in defence of his father and questioned the opposition benches if they were scared of the chief minister's explanation as it would expose the false allegations leveled against him by the congress party.
