Superintendent of Sultania Hospital, Dr Sudha Chourasiya said the condition of the mother and child was stable now. She said the newborn was suffering from a congenital anomaly due to which the child was referred to Hamidia Hospital.
Chourasiya said the woman was mentally unstable and unable to furnish any information about herself. She doesn’t know her address or the names of her family members, she added.
“We have informed Tallaiya police to find the woman’s family members. The woman doesn’t even remember who brought her to Sultania Hospital,” she added.
The woman is introducing herself as Kaushalya Ashok (32), resident of Khajuri. She said one of her relatives left her at a hospital in Bairagarh from where she was told to go to Sultania Hospital, so she came here.
Sajid Khan, an auto rickshaw driver who took the woman and her baby inside the hospital, said he saw the woman standing at the gate of Sultania Hospital. He asked her if she wanted to hire an auto but she refused. The woman moved to the side of the road and stood there. After a few minutes she delivered a baby on the road itself, he added.
“I was sitting inside my auto in front of Sultania Hospital when I saw the woman giving birth to a baby on the roadside. The baby was drenched in blood so I brought a piece of cloth from the hospital and wrapped the baby in it and rushed to the hospital. Other people standing around took the mother inside,” he added.
