On December 19, 2012, a judge ordered the registration of an FIR against Nishi Kant Singh, who is currently posted in China, a 2010 batch IFS officer on probation and is working with the Ministry of External Affairs, under sections of rape, deceitfully inducing the woman in a belief of lawful marriage and cheating.
According to the victim’s petition, she met Singh on a social networking website in December 2010. The victim’s counsel said, “She got married in a Sanatan Dharam Mandir on March 26, 2012. An affidavit was issued, but Singh never registered the marriage in court. Then, she got to know that Singh had already married someone in February 2012 for dowry.”
The judge said the nature of allegations leveled required field investigation by a police official of appropriate rank.
“As such the SHO of Vasant Vihar police station is directed to register an FIR …” said the judge. The case is listed for next hearing on January 15, 2013.
