Senior superintendent of police Surjit Singh Grewal on Saturday briefed the media about the kidnapping. "Nasib Kaur of Beehla village in Barnala district was waiting for a bus on the Bughipura bypass in Moga district when a Maruti car stopped near her and four women sitting inside offered her a ride," said the SSP. "As she approached the car, the women dragged her inside and drove away. The witnesses informed the police, who sealed the district border and caught the kidnappers within 90 minutes."
A farmer first spotted the getaway car going into his field near Bughipura village; and when he got near it on his tractor, he saw the women trying to drug Nasib Kaur. The farmer called for backup and the police, and helped catch the suspects. The condition of Nasib Kaur is stable.
A case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 382 (theft after preparation for murder), 365 (kidnapping) and 34 (common intent in crime) of the Indian Panel Code (IPC) was registered at Mehna.
