Five men were beaten to death by villagers after they allegedly teased women and girls in Jharkhand's Khuti district on Saturday, police said.

"Villagers beat five people to death at Manhu village in Khuti district," police told IANS in Khuti. The village is around 70km from Ranchi.

According to police, Bharat -- who had a criminal background -- was carrying out stone work in the village, which was being opposed by the villagers.

When Bharat's men misbehaved with some women and girls, the villagers surrounded them and asked them to leave.

One of the five killed tried to fire at the villagers, following which the five men were chased and beaten to death by the angry mob.
