With this, the Punjab government had sealed the fate of hundreds of teachers who had seen a ray of hope, charged JR Prashar, state president, PCCTU. He alleged that the state government had stabbed in the back of teaching community.
Prashar added that teachers had been struggling for the implementation of the 18-12-1996 scheme of pension for the past 16 years and the successive state governments had been dilly-dallying.
According to Kuldip Singh, general secretary, PCCTU, now when the Punjab and Haryana high court had passed an interim order on October 10, 2012, directing the Punjab government to frame positive rules for the implementation of the pension scheme, the latter had slaughtered the earlier passed legislation on December 21, 2012 just to save itself from humiliation.
The PCCTU had called an emergent meeting of its state executive committee to chalk out future course of action.
