Eight Metro stations in central Delhi were shut down on Sunday, inconveniencing lakhs of people.

On Monday, seven of the Metro stations are expected to remain closed. Only Central Secretariat will be thrown open for commuters. The shutdown, the first since the utility began services 10 years ago, followed a directive from police.

Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan and Race Course on Line Two (Gurgaon-Jahangirpuri) were closed as were Barakhamba Road, Mandi House and Pragati Maidan on Line Three (Noida-Dwarka). Khan Market, a station on Line Six (Central Secretariat-Badarpur), also was shut.

Longer trains to begin run today
The DMRC will introduce an eight-coach train on Monday on its Jahangirpuri-Gurgaon corridor.

The utility has cancelled a programme scheduled to be held on Monday to commemorate 10 years of operations in the Capital, which has been rocked by protests over the gangrape incident.
