An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two teenaged neighbours in Nagapattinam district, police said on Sunday.

In the incident, which shocked the community, the Class 4 student was sexually assaulted when she was alone at home on Friday. Initially, she did not tell her family about the crime.

On Saturday, when she complained of pain, doctors suspected she had been abused and informed her parents, who approached the police.

Medical examination of the girl confirmed rape, a police officer in Nagapattinam district in east Tamil Nadu said.

The accused minors, aged 15 and 17, have been sent to a juvenile home.
