A 13-year-old girl was raped in Panvel on Sunday morning by a local ragpicker. Police arrested the accused, Raj Kamble, 30, on Monday after she filed a complaint.

According to police inspector RV Gadhavle, “The girl had arrived by train from Akurli village at the Panvel railway station at around 6am, but instead of getting out from the New Panvel side, where she wanted to go, she exited from the Panvel end.”

“As she was trying to find her way, Kamble volunteered to help her find the address she was looking for. However, he took her to the bushes nearby and raped her,” Gadhavle said.

She reported the incident to the police on Monday.
