People of Jammu woke up to a freezing day on Thursday with dense fog enveloping the winter capital and the visibility falling to less than 200 metres, which led to grounding of flights and trains running behind schedule. Maximum temperature dropped by 7°C from the normal.
visibility threw air, rail and road traffic completely out of gear. So far, almost all the flights were delayed by 1 to 2 hours. The fog on the third consecutive day disrupted the rail traffic. Trains were running late by one to 12 hours at the Jammu Tawi Railway Station on Thursday.
Train number 12413, All Jat Express (Pooja Express) whose arrival time at the Jammu Tawi is 8.05am was running late by more than 10 hours and reached Jammu Tawi at 6:15pm, it will depart from Jammu Tawi at 1am, Himgiri Express was running late by 10 hours, it was expected to reach Jammu at 10 pm, as it was scheduled to reach Jammu by 12:20pm and Tata Jat Express was running late by 12 hours, its scheduled time was 2:20pm but it was expected to reach Jammu by 2:20 am.
All other trains were running late by one to four hours. Jammu Tawi railway station has daily traffic of 25-30 trains to and fro.
Meanwhile, the weathermen has declared it as the coldest day of the seasion and the minimum temperature dropped up to 7.6 and the maximum temperature was recorded as 11.6°C, which was 7°C less than the normal temperature.
However the weather in the mountainous districts was mainly dry, only Bhaderwah received light rain. The weathermen have forecasts, ": Light to moderate rain/snow would occur at many places over the state." Meanwhile, the ladhakh region has got some respite from the extreme cold with the minimum temperature of -11.9°C in Leh and maximum 0.1°C. However, Kargil recorded the minimum temperature of -10.8°C and maximum temperature of -0.6°C.
Fresh snow in Gulmarg, Pahalgam
In Srinagar, the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, health resort of Pahalgam and other heights across the Kashmir valley experienced fresh snowfall, while cold wave intensified in the plains.
The night temperature has improved considerably due to cloudy weather while the maximum dropped resulted in the cold in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region.
A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon light to moderate Rain or Snow would occur at many places with heavy to very heavy snowfall at isolated places in the Jammuand Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
