International concerts2012 saw four international concerts. The year kicked off with music fans swaying to the tunes of two-time Grammy award winner David Guetta in March. Two months later, fans thronged the concert of American heavy metal band - Lamb of God. The California-based metal band Korn also entertained fans in September. The band had played numbers from their newly launched album Path of Totality. During their maiden visit to India in December, Guns and Roses dedicated their Gurgaon concert to Pt Ravi Shankar. They played all their hits and classic numbers. People from all walks of life thronged the concerts.
Musical shows at Kingdom of DreamsKingdom of Dreams (KOD) famous musical comedy on stage - Jhumroo - completed its 200 shows in November. The achievement was celebrated with fanfare by inducing legendary Kishore Kumar's melodious voice in the theatrical composition of Jhumroo with comic situations. The event was the biggest crowd puller. The entertainment hub celebrated its second anniversary with a live concert of Adnan Sami. In March, Bollywood singer Shaan performed at the Nautanki Mahal at the Kingdom of Dreams.
Hemara Gurgaon Winter MarathonNearly 300 denizens ran to spread the joy of running among underprivileged school children on December 23. Organised by a group of running enthusiasts, Run With Me, the Hemara Gurgaon Winter Marathon was flagged off by Gurgaon's sub-divisional magistrate Vivek Kalia at the Leisure Valley ground. The fundraising event had two categories of distances - for advanced runners and for beginners and children. The funds will be used to organise running competitions in government schools.
Schoolchildren take part in Heritage RunOn November 24, nearly 800 students from Gurgaon's leading schools assembled at the Leisure Valley grounds to participate in a heritage-run conducted by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH). Twelve schools took part in the 3-km run. The aim was to sensitise people towards protecting and conserving India's rich heritage and environment.
Art exhibitions at EpicenterSeveral major events were organised at the Epicenter in Gurgaon. Art Mart, Diwali mela, Christmas carnival and the Independence Day mela were great crowd pullers. Acclaimed film director Ketan Mehta's unreleased Rang Rasiya was screened as a part of Art Mart in September. The movie had been stalled due to its bold scenes. Besides from these major events, Epicenter has been a major hub for art exhibitions and theatre performances. One such being Liliette Dubey and her theatre troupe.
