The much-awaited Gurgaon-Jaipur Women Car Rally is back in the city with its seventh edition. The unique initiative, organised for the first time in 2007 by NGO Uthaan, will be flagged off on January 19.

Started with 28 participants, the rally made its way into the Limca Book of records as India's longest women car rally in the year of its inception. After six years, the event now boasts of participants from the NCR and far-off cities such as Bhopal, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Chennai.

In 2011, 96 women participated in the rally.

"Sixty participants have already registered themselves for the event. Two participants are from Sri Lanka too. We are expecting more entries," said Sanjay Kaushik, organiser of the event. All participants have to be accompanied by a navigator, who will help them with directions. "We will be passing through complex routes, including remote villages. A man can be a navigator too, but he will not be eligible for the best navigator award," he said.

The participants will pass through the Sariska Bird Sanctuary and the Bhangarh Fort in Rajasthan, one of the most haunted places in South Asia.

However, the starting point for the rally in Gurgaon has not been decided yet. It is scheduled to terminate at Jaipur's Cambey Golf Resort on Agra road. The two-day event will conclude with a prize distribution ceremony.
