The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has called for the removal of Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini for his alleged failure to check crime in the state.
Addressing media persons, national general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP, Narinder Kashyap, said: "There is no law and order in the state.
Jungle Raj has become widespread. Goons supported by ruling party are terrorising the common man. How can Saini, who faces criminal charges himself, be expected to order police to maintain order and check crime."
"The atrocities on women are much higher in the state. Suicide by a rape victim in Patiala due to inaction of police in registering the crime is equally heinous than the rape of Delhi. In other parts of the state also, several atrocities on women had been noticed in previous days which is a black blot on the state government," Kashayap added.
"State leaders of my party had brought several such incidences in my notice which had shaken me completely. At Kotli Sheikha village, a six-months old pregnant was gang-raped. Check any days' newspaper, the failure of state police can be clearly seen," said Kashyap.
"CM Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal is equally responsible because he has taken no-action on the deteriorating law-and-order in state. He should take this issue seriously and remove all tainted police officers, including DGP, from the higher and responsible posts in police," Kashyap said.
"The state Police had failed even to defend itself. At Amritsar ASI was brutally murdered in broad daylight while saving her girl from assaulters; At Ludhiana, a very senior officer was attacked. This all is happening because of meek leadership," Kashyap further added.
"Our party at national level has demanded the call of special session of parliament to envisage strict laws to ensure culprits who assault women. In Punjab too, CM Punjab should take the moral responsibility being the head of state to ensure safety of women," said Kashyap.
In the press conference, Kashyap also revealed the party's plan to celebrate January-15, the birthday of BSP supremo, Mayawati and discussed the plans with party leaders.
Incharge Punjab affairs, Parkash Bharti, president state unit of BSP Parkash Singh Jandali and Media Incharge Sukhwinder Singh Kotli were among the prominent persons present on this occasion.
