Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu has urged railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal to introduce another Shatabdi Express between Amritsar and New Delhi.
Sidhu, in a written communiqué to Bansal, said that since Amritsar was a major tourist destination and almost 1 lakh people visit the city everyday, there was an urgent need to start another Amritsar-Delhi Shatabdi train for the convenience of tourists.

Welcoming Bansal's announcement of starting another Shatabdi Express between Chandigarh and Delhi, Sidhu asked him to announce a Shatabdi for Amritsar as well.

The Amritsar-Delhi Shatabdi, which runs twice a day, is only able to cater to 50% of the demand of passengers as many of them fail to get reservation.
