After being gangraped by her brother-in-law and his accomplice for eight days, a minor girl, 14, is now in hospital in Ahmedabad after making a suicide attempt. She was abducted on December 6 in Dholka, 75 km from Ahmedabad. The girl, on ventilator, is said to be stable. She had been dumped outside the town on December 14. When the victim’s family approached the local police station to lodge a complaint, the police initially did not entertain the case, saying the incident appeared to be the fallout of a family feud. However, after the victim was shifted to Ahmedabad, the police took the complaint and launched investigation.

“We have taken the complaint and the main accused has been arrested. A police team is hunting for another accused,” a police official in Dholka said.

A medical representative at the hospital, run by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), stated: “The girl had consumed pesticide and was brought to the hospital on Monday evening. She is stable and out of danger.”

Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, who is also Dholka MLA, visited the hospital. The police said when the victim’s elder sister had come to her parental home for the treatment of pregnancy-related complications, her husband wanted the younger sister to be with him for helping in domestic work at his residence.
