Acid attack victim Usha Sharma on Monday remained unconscious at the burns injury department of Meerut medical college with deep wounds on her face and chest. Doctors declared her out of danger, but were worried about permanent damage from the injuries. Meanwhile, Muzaffarnagar police arrested a photographer, Pawan Kumar, in connection with the case. Usha and her friend were returning from the market in Aryapuri locality of Muzaffarnagar on Sunday evening when Kumar allegedly threw acid on them.

Both victims were rushed to the district hospital, from where Usha was referred to the Meerut facility.

Usha’s husband Ashok Sharma, a TV mechanic in Muzaffarnagar, blamed Kumar for teasing his wife. “I had an altercation with him over the issue and now, after a gap of three months, he threw acid on my wife to take revenge,” said Ashok, demanding stringent action against the attacker.

Dr Ajit Choudhary, in-charge of the emergency department at the Meerut medical college, said, “The acid has left deep burns on her face and chest, which would cause permanent damage to her skin.”

Doctors are trying their best to minimise her pain.

The victim’s relatives fear the injuries will leave scars not only on her body but also her psyche.
