Giving priority to all cases relating to crimes against women, the Punjab Police on Wednesday filed a challan in a rape case in the court of the judicial magistrate within four days of registration of the FIR.
The case pertaining to the rape of a minor was registered on December 30 under section 376 of the IPC at the Maqboolpura police station. The victim is a migrant labourer's daughter. The accused was a neighbour of the victim and both families were known to each other.

The victim complained to the police that she had been raped a couple of times in the past four months. The accused, who was nabbed on the same day the complaint was lodged, was sent in judicial custody after questioning.

Amritsar police commissioner Ram Singh said that since the victim was a minor, he immediately directed the Maqboolpura police station SHO to investigate the case on priority. The SHO went to the complainant's house and recorded every detail in the presence of family members. The police got the girl medically examined and recorded her statement under section 164 of the CrPC before a magistrate.

After the completion of investigations in the case, the challan was prepared and presented in court on Wednesday.
