Naran Kachhadia, BJP parliamentarian from Gujarat, has been booked for assaulting an on-duty government doctor in Amreli. In his complaint, Dr Bhimji Dabhi of Amreli civil hospital had also accused the MP of issuing threats and “high handedness”. The incident occurred on Monday, when a BJP worker’s relative had to be admitted in the hospital.

“According to Dr Dabhi, Kachhdia had called him on his phone but since he was attending an emergency patient, he missed the call. The MP rushed to the hospital, where he allegedly slapped the doctor during an altercation,” said a police officer from Amreli. An FIR has been lodged and the probe is on.

Denying that he had assaulted the doctor, Kachhadia said he would report the matter to the state health department. The doctor, who hardly attends to any patient, had refused to meet him when he visited the hospital, Kachhadia said.

“He has lodged a baseless complaint. I had gone there to ensure that poor people get timely treatment,” he said.
