Two Pakistani fishing trawlers that strayed into Indian waters through the 'disputed' Sir Creek have been seized by the Border Security Force (BSF), officials said on Thursday.

"In the wee hours of Wednesday, the BSF came to know about an intrusion by Pakistani fishing boats near Sir Creek. However, when our patrolling boats approached the site, the intruders fled to the sea, leaving their boats behind," BSF officials told reporters.

Stating that the two boats had crossed the international maritime boundary towards India, officials said they have been brought to Koteshwar in Bhuj.

Further investigations in this regard are being carried out by the police.

Both India and Pakistan are engaged in a political battle over this area, which is suspected to be rich in oil and gas. The brackish water also makes for good fishing ground.
