The city’s weather has been blowing hot and cold in the past few days as it witnessed a drop of almost 6 degree Celsius between Wednesday and Thursday. The minimum temperature dropped from 21.9 degree Celsius to 15.5 degree Celsius, 1.6 degree below normal.  

The temperature has ranged from 13.7 degree Celsius, which was the season’s coldest day, to 21.7 degree Celsius in the last six days.

According to officials of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a western disturbance passing over the northern states of Jammu and Kashmir changed the wind directions from warm easterly winds to cold northerly winds.

A western disturbance is a storm like condition that results in rain and extreme cold in northern India and its effects are experienced in the west owing to changing wind patterns.

“We expect the temperatures to rise slightly on Friday and come back to normal. The central and eastern parts of the state, too, are experiencing a cold wave right now,” said VK Rajeev, director, IMD, western region.

The maximum temperatures in the city also dipped by 1 degree and 2 degree Celsius respectively at Colaba and Santacruz.
