There is obvious anger among people coupled with flagging hopes over the light punishment the juvenile accused may get away with in the December 16 gangrape case because of his age. A day after the Delhi Police filed the chargesheet against the five adult accused in the case, Delhiites expressed their displeasure, saying reduction in the severity of the punishment for the juvenile would have no effect on him at all.

“Juveniles aren't given severe punishment but exceptions need to be made given the extent of atrocities committed in the case,” said Viresh Sharma, an engineering student.

“So many lives can be saved in the future if the fear of law is instilled in people by making an example of this juvenile,” he added.

"Instead of relaxing this weekend, we have urged all our batchmates and friends to come and join us to urge the authorities to take action over this matter. No movement must go in vain. There will be no greater injustice if the juvenile is allowed to go so easily," said Neha Kapur, another student of DU. 

Another Delhi University student, Nidhi Sharma, said, "If he gets away with just three years in jail, it will totally defeat the purpose because it will not bring to book the main perpetrator of the crime. Instead of muffling the voices of students for speaking up, authorities need to focus on ensuring justice is meted out."

Meanwhile, students expressed outrage over the clampdown on protests a day after a group of students from Lady Hardinge Medical College were asked to end their protest.
